Squeezing Past The Machines

Holly and I are still visiting with Nita and CJ Okeefe in Texas. Our camper is parked in their driveway and we spend every day working together on projects that will be coming out over the next several months.

Nita, Holly, Sylvia, and Ina were all running test-sews for Fuwari designs at one time on machines. Wow! That's a lot of stitching going on, but they've nailed down exactly what each machine will do when used with different designs and it's been fun seeing the results.

Right now these are the machines that are here...

Babylock Ellegante
Babylock Elageo
Babylock EMP6
Bernina 200e
Brother 270d
Brother Inovis 4000
Brother 8200
Brother 8500
Brother ULT
Janome 350
Janome 11000
Viking Designer SE

... and there are multiples of some of these machines too! I'll be taking still photos and video footage soon and will include a look around the studio. It's kind of fun to look at the differences and similarities between machines.

It's also challenging to work with the different ways designs are fed into each of these machines. They use a combination of floppy disks, memory sticks, USB cables, compact flash cards, and proprietary memory cards too.

I can't wait for the videos we're working on to come out. I know some of you will LOVE these. But it won't be for a while still so I'll let you know when they're ready. Meanwhile, I'll post pictures of the studio as soon as I can get them up.

Holly:

Hi Val,
We are still trying to get a Pfaff for testing. The person we are working with has tried some dealers and so far no luck. We sure hope to get one soon. 8-)

Michelle Kratzer:

Found Bobbin Buzz doing a search for info on Fuwari and noticed this post. Has there been any additional information released on set ups for the listed machines? I am test sewing some designs on a VikingSE and am not finding the right combination. We have a lot of stitchers here in SWFLA very excited about this new technique, so any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Michelle -

I saw your question in the Bobbin-Buzz comments and asked Holly to answer for you. See below for what Holly said... -- Larry

When we tested the Viking, we had to play with the tension and bring it down to 4 before it stitched well. ALSO, winding the bobbins on the SideWinder Bobbin Winder (available at JoAnns and other places as well) will help the consistency of the Fuwari bobbin thread. To use the Side Winder for the Viking bobbins, remove the little wire from the spindle that holds the bobbin. The Viking bobbin should fit then.

Also slow down the machine to it’s slowest speed. This gives the needle a chance to recover fully before moving to the next stitch. It is similar to quilting. You must slow the machine down to allow for timing. Use an 80/12 SHARP needle. Ball points will not work consistently and you will have needle breakage with ball points so switch to 80/12 sharps.
