I am new to ATW and I love it! I want to purchase some software for my embroidery machine. I came across these two programs called SewWhat Pro and SewCat. Do you know anything about them? Are they good? Would you recommend either one?

RE: Would you suggest SewWhat Pro for a beginner or Embird Basic?
I'd suggest Embird Basic. It's a very powerful and versatile program.
RE: Would you suggest Catalog Xpress by Ann the Gran or SewCat?
I can't recommend either one. Both are cataloging programs and I'm at a loss as to why a person wouldn't just use SewIconz or Iconizer to view your designs using MyComputer and sort them that way instead of using a cataloging program.

What about BuzzXplore? :-) I have Fancyworks and Embroidery Magic II for digitizing. Would it be better to scrap those and buy Embird + the options, or keep what I have and add BuzzXplore for cataloging, extracting, and converting? Or is there another option that would be better altogether?
Thanks for your input, I (as well as a lot of your readers, I am sure) really value your judgement and opinions.
Blessings,

Thanks for the nice comments. I have had BuzzXplore for several years and have been using it to convert designs for our website. It's reliable and does have some nice features.
I have also had Embird for several years and I use it as well. There are some tasks that I chosse Embird for and some that I choose BuzzXplore for instead. So it's hard to say "I like this one better than that one" without going in to a LOT of detail and showing exactly what I'm talking about.
As for FancyWorks and Embroidery Magic II it's a different story. I've heard of both programs but never tried them out. Sorry I can't help you more with that question or the question about ditching them and swithing to Embird and BuzzXplore. I like both Embird and BuzzXplore but it wouldn't be fair of me to compare them to programs I've never used.
That said -- I can tell you the BuzzXplore and Embird are VERY popular programs and they run well. It the 2 you have run well then you'd have to make a choice of switching or not. On the other hand, if the 2 you have don't run well then it's a good move to get Embird and Iconizer. With those 2 pieces you can do a lot of editing and file sorting. If you want to digitize, then add the studio program to your suite.

I just read your article on SewIconz or Iconizer. I am very new to Machine Embroidery and I don't know what either of these are. I just know that I have a ton of designs in my computer and I can never find one when I want it.
Please explain these programs and how to use them, Or tell me where I can go to learn about them.
Thank you for all your news letters and free designs. I love them all.

Larry,
You posted an answer to Gina's question about cataloging programs. I use MyComputer to catalog my designs but struggle with files that I have to unzip before I can drop it into a specific folder. It is so time consuming. I had wanted to purchase AnnTheGran's Catalog Xpress because it unzips files without having to go to Winzip. It is very easy to use and quick. My only problem with this program is the price tag. It's just too much for my budget. I googled "Sewlconz" and did not yeild any hits. Is this program something we already have on our computer or where can I get more information on this program? Thanks for the service you provide.

Larry.... love to read your input.... but wanted to say HOORAY.... I bought sewiconz and it's fantastic and really cheap!!!! People need to learn more about what they can do themselves.... with their computers.... making their own folders and sub-folders... (there that tells you how long ago I was forced to learn "the computer",,,, but thank the Lord everyday for that experience and how it has added to my joy of sewing and embroidery.... oh yes, and buzz tools is my only conversion tool, which I then use with my original "customizing" that came with my D1....(one upgrade)... then decided to just enjoy what I have ....stop spending and start sewing... thanks for listening and for what you all do for the "sewing world"........... bj
