Travelog: VDTA Show - Las Vegas

Holly and Nita are in Las Vegas at the VDTA/SDTA Show. The alphabet soup means "Vacuum Dealers Trade Association / Sewing Machine Dealers Trade Association" That's where your dealers go every winter to see what's new in the marketplace that they can bring to their store for you. And they're getting an eyefull this year at the RNK booth where Holly and Nita are showing off two new product lines...

First is the Fuwari line that you've heard so much about lately here on Bobbin-Buzz. There are 26 sets of designs being released initially with more to follow every month. Here's a project photo from one of the sets...

Next is the "Signature" line from "ME And Thee". This is a line of designs for the dealers from Nita and Holly. They will start showing up in stores as early as March for those dealers that are ordering while they're at the show.

Of course this is very exciting for us as it's the culmination of many months of long hours and hard work. Here's a photo of the ME And Thee section of the RNK booth. Just the ME And Thee section is a 20' x 10' booth and our team brought enough projects with them that there wasn't room to display all of them in that size booth!

There are 20 sets of designs being released initially for the Signature line with more to follow every month. There's also a "Club" being set up for both the Fuwari and SIgnature lines. Your dealer will have details when they get back from the show. Ask them!

Jane Urbach:

You are prasing Fuwari. What is new about this and why should one be looking for these designs? Just looking at the picture of an elephant pillow does not explain what is new and exciting (as you seem to indicate) so that it is something I want to be looking for.

Thanks, Jane

Hi Jane -- Fuwari could best be described as a 3D embroidery. So looking at a 2-dimensional photo really doesn't do it justice. You have to see it in person or if there were 3D computer screens that would work too. It makes a design with all the threads standing up on end, sort of like a crew-cut haircut or a piece of very fine carpeting or "fur". Maybe a good translation from Japanese to English would be "furry embroidery".

So you are right that seeing a photo of an elephant design done on a pillow doesn't really tell the whole story. Unfortunately, 2-D photography is all we have at this time to work with until you can see it in person.

Cat:

I believe that RNK will be exhibiting at the ISS show in Atlantic City coming up in two weeks. Will Holly and Nita be there, as well?

If so, I look forward to meeting them and seeing all of the goodies!

Hi Cat - They're not scheduled to be there at this time and I don't think they can make it on such short notice. We're scheduled to leave Texas about March 12th and will be heading for the Panhandle area of Florida. Nita and CJ will be there with us for a couple weeks then Holly and Nita head for the AEC in Atlanta.

I know that RNK will have part of their trunk shows at the ISS and you'll get to see (and touch) some of the Fuwari projects as well as the Signature line. Fuwari is a "touch" thing... a photo really doesn't capture what it's all about.

I think Holly and Nita will be attending some other shows but they've got to be worked into their schedules.
