SiteSeeing: Get SMART!

Last Saturday we went to lunch and parked near a "SMART" car. I've seen them in some movies shot in Europe but I didn't know they were available in the USA. I looked them up this morning and here's a few answers to the questions that were in my mind...

$11,590 / 40-city & 45-highway / 90-mph / Made by Mercedes-Benz

The one we saw was a convertible ($16,000 + options) and was really cute! It's worth a look if it's time for a new car and you're thinking about gas mileage...

Hi Larry, I just saw the picture of the Smart Car on the Bobbin Buzz. Here in Ontario, these vehicles start at $17,000. A friend of mine has one for commuting. He loves it. Even in this climate! I see these cars more and more. It's built well. It's a Mercedes that's afordable!

They do look like nice cars. If you currently drive 18,000 miles a year and get 14-mpg then changing to a 40-mpg car would save you the cost of 835 gals of gas per year.

Translate that to money...

At $3.00 / gal - that's $208/mo
At $4.00 / gal - that's $275/mo
At $5.00 / gal - that's $350/mo
At $6.00 / gal - that's $416/mo

The payments on a $17,000 car would be $328/mo with $2,000 down, 7% interest rate, and 7% sales tax. Or in other words -- just the gas savings alone would make the car payments when gas gets to $4.70 / gal. That will probably happen in the summer of 2009.

I have been having a real problem downloading each week's freebies from bobbin buzz. I get the email with the link and when I go there , there is no freebie there to get . I have written 2 emails about it but no one has contacted me or helped me . Can you please help? I love your designs. thanks

Hi Clydene - Emails sent to webmaster@artisticthreadworks.com normally get read right away and responded to within a few hours on weekdays and a couple of times throughout the weekend too. But to address your initial problem - the links to the freebies always go to one of two places...

Designs from Artistic ThreadWorks come from the Design Library. Inside the library is a link that says "Sample Designs". When you click into that area you will see the sample designs available for download for that day. They change every Wednesday and Friday.

Designs from NitasPlace come from her "Design Depot" and she puts up a new sampler set every Monday afternoon. The shortcut to the sampler on her site is http://www.nitasplace.com/sampler.html.

Once you get to the correct page for downloading, you should see a list of formats you can choose from such as "Download ART", "Download DST", etc. Just click the format you want and you SHOULD see a download file box. If you don't see the box that asks "Do you want to save or open this file?" then you've accidentally un-checked the box on that form that says "Always ask before opening this type of file". Here's how to reset that so you see the download box again... http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/39257/how-can-i-reset-the-always-ask-before-opening-this-type-of-file-functionality-in-microsoft-outlook-for-a-particular-file-type.html

Finally, I sometimes here from people that they download a file but it's not there. The problem turns out to be the "there" is relative to where you save things on your computer. Direct your downloads location so you can find it after it's been downloaded. To control where it goes, choose the folder you want it saved in when you click the "Save" button. You'll see then a "SAVE AS" dialog box and it will try to save the file to wherever you saved something to the last time you saved a file on your computer. You can choose where to save the file to so you'll know where to find it afterwards.
