Funny Stories: "Perils of Carlene"

Here is another funny story from our entries in the Funny Story contest. It's too funny! Submitted by Carlene Tapley So, have any of the folks at your website seen Whoopi Goldberg in Jumpin' Jack Flash??? I had a Whoopi moment recently. I made a sweet baby quilt using appliqued animal designs, a bunny, a teddy etc. After having worked for a week with my Designer SE I was carefully ironing the quilttop and had it draped over the ironing board. I hadn't noticed that directly below the ironing board was my paper shredder!!! The very heavy duty top of the line one so it would work really well paper shredder, I might add. As I ironed I heard this funny noise and suddenly a look of horror crossed my face and I did indeed pull a Whoopi and was trying like mad to make that darned machine turn loose of my quilt! It took me a minute to realize that I had to pull the plug as the shutoff button was not responding...I pulled hard on the plug just about the time I burned the motor up on the shredder. Lord, it had eaten 4 squares of my quilt!! After I got done cussing I could see the humor involved and was grateful I had just enough extra fabric to redo the squares that had been "eaten". It all turned out well, but there was chaos in the sewing room for a little while. The offending machine is now reduced to a wastebasket as the motor was toast! Thanks for listening to the "Perils of Carlene"...sigh

Nita's Notes

Well friends this has been a busy week. I have been working like mad to do all the catch up on the website. Many things have been updated including a new Search Feature in the forum. I know many of you have been asking for that one,. My friend, Larry Pike from ATW knew I was working on it and slipped over here one evening and left it for me to find. Thanks Larry!! We did some catching up from last month and we are getting the updates up for May as you can see from the News. It hardly seems like it should be May already, but it surely is here. May always makes me think of flowers and in Texas, both April and May are usually when everything blooms. I often wonder what the first people who came West and Southwest saw when they first arrived here in Texas. Now we have Mother's Day coming and I will be uploading some pretty projects over the next few days that you can use for Mother's Day. They will be quick and easy for all of you who do not have much time to work on them. The nice thing about pretty little gifts is that they can be used for much more than one occasion. Then of course is Memorial Day at the end of the month, so I will try and come up with something for that this month. And graduation will also be here this month. My number 3 grandson will be graduating this month in KY. This makes 3 and 1 to go next year. I have 3 grandsons who are 1 year apart. So, of course, we will be heading for KY close to the end of the month to attend that and to visit with family. Our webmaster Debbie has a birthday this month too.It looks like May is really going to be a busy month for everyone. I wish you all a Happy Week! Until next time. Happy Stitching; Nita

It's Spring Again!

We're back in Northern Illinois and it's spring again! We saw spring in Texas, then again in Tennessee, and now we're seeing it in Illinois. Must be my favorite season or I wouldn't keep repeating it. LOL! Here in Illinois, spring means lots of thunderstorms. One last nite went on for several hours and included a power outage for a couple hours. Fortunately, we have a generator and didn't have to wait in the dark. Unfortunately, our TV reception is via satellite and that goes out in a heavy storm. While the storm was raging, a couple pulled into a tent-camping site in front of us. The husband, wife, and what looked like a 6-year old, got out of their car and set up a tent and started a campfire in the rain. I admire the guts but questioned the sanity of the dad! When I woke up about midnite, the storm was past, the power was back on in the campground, and the tent campers had already packed up and left. :-) It's nice to be parked somewhere for a while and settle into a work routine. Holly's been digitizing a lot the last couple days and I've been working on another project we'll be showing off soon. I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labors in your embroidery hobby. -- Larry
